Prescriptions are going electronic - here's what you need to know

There are around 1.5 million paper prescriptions issued every working day in England. Of these, around 7 in 10 are repeat prescriptions. This all means a lot of paper, a lot of administration and a lot of trips to surgeries to collect repeat prescriptions. To make the production and processing of prescriptions more efficient, an electronic prescription service is being introduced across England. This service will allow your GP practice to electronically send your prescription to the place from where you chose to get your medication, without the need for a paper prescription in many cases. What's happening in Milton Keynes and Northamptonshire?

There is currently one GP practice using the Electronic Prescription Service across Milton Keynes and Northamptonshire – Rushden Medical Centre, Northamptonshire. We hope to have the service working in more GP practices in 2012.
